CONSURV have a long track record in the non-destructive treatment and diagnosis of dry rot. He is head of the European Environmental Dry Rot Research Association (EEDRA), which is dedicated to eradicating the unnecessary use of chemicals in the built environment and to retaining as much of the original fabric of buildings as possible.
Some of the flagship conservation projects Consurv have worked on – including Farmleigh House and Markree Castle – have been passively treated for the past 27 years. No chemicals were used in the treatment of dry rot in Markree Castle even though the building had suffered badly from water ingress and dry rot was prevalent throughout the building. In most of the areas the dry rot still exists but we have changed the conditions of the building so that dry rot cannot survive.
How CONSRUV treats Dry Rot
Dry Rot is no different to a house plant (let it be a Geranium in a pot) in that it needs certain conditions to prosper. CONSURV has the specialist knowledge to manipulation of climatic conditions of a building simply by identifying and eliminating the areas where water ingress is occurring.
This can be done in a non-destructive manner by using thermal imaging to identify the source of the moisture. Once the source has been identified it can be eliminated and the building will dry out naturally.
Innovative Dry Rot treatment
- Non-destructive diagnosis causes of dry rot using thermal imaging.
- Non-invasive and chemical free treatment of fungi and mould within buildings.
- Independent expert advice on corrective action for building decay.
- Detailed specification for carrying out specialist conservation work on site.
About Dry Rot (panel)
All dry rot growth relies on timber being in contact with wet masonry in the absence of air movement. Timber may be visually contaminated with either wet rot or by mycelium of dry rot – the Resistometer provides a structural analysis of the timber element.Often a simple combination of elements in an environment can cause a breeding ground for mould. CONSURV’S team can make an Impact Assessment to find your root cause.
