Consurv were commissioned by the Nano Nagle Centre to design and manage a sustainable conversion and extension of an existing site of the Centre. The sustainable aspect of the extension was an essential consideration of this project as the Nano Nagle Centre is an environmentally responsible development project.
To achieve a high quality sustainable design with a low carbon footprint, particular focus was given to reducing the heat loss characteristics of the extension, while still allowing natural light to flood the interior space. Low embodied energy materials were used in the conversion work along with a heating scheme that utilised a combination of geo-thermal, solar and renewable wood-chip fuels. A sustainable wetland sewage treatment system was also incorporated into the heating scheme of the conversion.
