Mould Analysis

Toxic Moulds need to be identified in order to remove them safely and effectively. Trapped water in older building can be a dangerous enemy.

If there is mould or dampness in your home, the most important thing is to find the root cause of the mould. Damp and mould can adversely affect your health, so it's important to get rid of the cause at the source of the moisture. Moisture testing is the first step.

Causes of damp and mould,

Damp and mould are caused by excess moisture in your home or workplace. So moisture testing is the first step.  Moisture in buildings can simply be caused by leaking pipes, rising damp in basements or ground floors, or rain seeping in because of damage to the roof or around window frames. Moisture is not limited to old buildings it can also be a feature of a newly-built home damp can occur if the water used when the house was built is still drying out.

Condensation from Living

Excess moisture indoors can also be caused by condensation. Condensation from cooking, showering, drying clothes indoors and breathing without adequate ventilation can all cause moisture to collect if it is not being properly ventilated.. Droplets can form on indoor surfaces such as mirrors, windowsills and on walls, particularly when they're cold.

We all create Moisture - 1.25 litres per person per day

Household occupancy has been studied to determine the moisture production by people and the input rate of moisture for several types of household activities. The activities of a family of four were tested; it was found that although the activities of the residents may vary, the amount of water vapour produced by metabolic processes such as respiration and perspiration will average about 0.2 litres per hour or five litres per day. This is 1.25 litres per person per day.

You can help prevent the build-up of condensation by:

  • putting lids on saucepans,
  • drying washing outside and
  • avoiding using paraffin or bottled gas heaters
  • opening the bedroom window for 15 minutes each morning
  • making sure your home is well insulated heating your home a little more ventilating rooms regularly and leaving doors open to allow air to circulate.
  • unless you're cooking or showering if you're cooking, showering or bathing – opening the window, putting the fan on and closing the door of the room you're in Repairs may be needed to get rid of any leaks or to improve ventilation.
